NOTICE OF VACANCY – F/T Code Enforcement Officer

Full Time Code Enforcement Officer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the following requirement(s) on or before the date of examination.

Either:

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, or related field and one year experience in building construction, building inspection or substantially work, OR
2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years’ work experience as described in A above, OR
3. An equivalent combination of construction experience and education as described in A and B above.
4. Certified NYS Code Enforcement Official

The work involves building inspections, and the enforcement of various local laws and ordinances in such areas as zoning, litter, property maintenance, junk cars, etc.  Work shall be performed in accordance with established procedures and involves the inspection of existing structures, the enforcement of both the Village of Walden Code and the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, along with other related laws, codes and ordinances concerning building standards, fire prevention, and property maintenance.  In addition, work involves the investigation, documentation, issuance of violations, court appearances, and various other activities related to other codes and ordinances.  Work shall be performed under the supervision of the Building Inspector.  Applications without salary requirement will not be considered.

Successful candidates will be subject to Orange County Civil Service rules and regulations.
